We reckon that we’re not the only one who wants to stuff themselves silly on cake after watching an episode of ‘The Great British Bake Off‘. If you’ve also got a hankering for sweet treats, you’ll probably want to start fasting in preparation for a little trip to Baketopia.
To celebrate National Baking Week, the infamous and glorious Miss Cakehead is curating a team of the UK’s finest food artists to create a 100% edible pop-up in Kingly Court. From 12-7pm on October 11 and 12, you can enter the Wonka-esque world consisting of around 3,000 portions of baked goods, which all must be eaten. Augustus Gloop may have been punished for his greed, but you won’t find yourself stuck in any pipes here.
Gorge yourself on masterful handiwork of Never Pie Cakes, Caking It, Conjurer’s Kitchen and the Tattooed Bakers. Dip frog-shaped cookies into a milk fountain, harvest meringue mushrooms, break honeycomb pieces from a bee hive and pull carrot cakes from chocolate cookie earth. In the centre of this cloud nine of confectionery, the Tatooed Bakers have made a giant unicorn of rainbow cake and edible gold leaf embossed hooves and horns. Sweet lord, if this is 1% as good as it sounds, it’s going to be great. Ally Swadling
